Key Features and Advantages

  • Eliminates Grafting: The innovative design allows the queen to lay eggs directly into the cell plugs, bypassing the delicate and time-consuming grafting process.
  • Higher Acceptance Rate: Larvae are never handled or disturbed, leading to significantly higher acceptance by the cell-builder colony and resulting in stronger, more vigorous queens.
  • Dual-Function Versatility: This single system is expertly designed for both high-yield queen rearing and the hygienic production of premium royal jelly.
  • Commercial-Grade Durability: Constructed from high-quality, resilient food grade plastic, every component is built to withstand the rigors of repeated use in a commercial setting.
  • Enhanced Hygiene: The system minimizes the handling of larvae and royal jelly, ensuring a cleaner, purer end product.

Components of the Queen Rearing System

This all-inclusive kit provides everything you need to begin advanced queen rearing.

Queen Rearing Frame (Wax-Coated): The heart of the system. This main frame is coated with natural beeswax to encourage rapid acceptance and comb building by the bees. Its front features a precision grid, while the back is designed to hold the Cell Bar Strips, allowing the queen to lay eggs directly into the removable cell plugs.

Queen Controller (Excluder): A perfectly molded excluder that fits securely over the Queen Rearing Frame. It effectively confines the queen, ensuring she lays eggs only in the designated cell plugs, while allowing worker bees to pass through freely to tend to the eggs and larvae.

Cell Bar Strips with Integrated Plugs: These 27 strips are the core of the no-grafting technology. Each white plastic strip holds 30 black, removable cell plugs. When placed in the Queen Rearing Frame, the queen lays eggs directly into these plugs. After the larvae hatch, the entire strip is removed, transferring the young, undisturbed larvae safely and efficiently.

  • Cell Bar Strips with Wooden Support: Includes 2 specialized strips with integrated wooden supports. This adds rigidity and strength, ideal for queen rearing applications, and ensures a perfect fit within the grooves of the Cell Bar Holder Frames.

  • Royal Jelly Bars: These 12 white plastic bars are engineered for efficient royal jelly production. Each bar features a row of circular sockets with a precise locking mechanism that securely holds the cell plugs with a "click". When loaded with larvae-filled plugs and placed in a strong colony, these bars stimulate workers to produce and deposit large amounts of royal jelly.

Streamlined Workflow: From Egg to Queen or Royal Jelly

This versatile kit can be used for two primary purposes: raising queen bees and producing royal jelly.

Method 1: High-Success Queen Rearing

  1. Preparation & Comb Building: Place the wax-coated Queen Rearing Frame (with Cell Bar Strips installed) into a strong hive. The bees will draw out the comb on the surface. Queen Rearing Kit
  2. Confining the Queen: Place the Queen Controller over the frame and introduce your selected breeder queen. Confine her for approximately 24 hours, during which she will lay eggs directly into the integrated cell plugs.

  3. Larvae Development: Remove the queen and the controller. Return the frame to the hive for 3-4 days, allowing the eggs to hatch into young larvae.
  4. Transferring Larvae: Carefully remove the frame and gently detach the Cell Bar Strips, which now contain young, undisturbed larvae in their original cell base. Queen Rearing Kit
  5. Cell Building: Attach an Individual White Cell Cup to each plug on the strips you intend to use for queen rearing. Mount these completed strips onto the Cell Bar Holder Frames and place them into a strong, queenless "finisher" colony. The worker bees will feed the larvae and draw out large, healthy queen cells.

  6. Maturation & Harvest: Approximately 10 days after the transfer, the queen cells will be capped and ready. Carefully transfer them to mating nucs or new colonies to emerge. Queen Rearing Kit

Method 2: Hygienic Royal Jelly Production

  1. Obtain Larvae: Follow Steps 1-4 from the queen rearing instructions above to obtain strips of young, healthy larvae.
  2. Assemble for Royal Jelly: Attach the larvae-filled Cell Bar Strips directly to the Royal Jelly Bars. The plugs will click securely into place. Alternatively, you can use the Individual White Cell Cups. Mount the assembled bars onto the Cell Bar Holder Frames.

  3. Feeding Period: Place the frames into a strong, queenless colony that is primed for royal jelly production. The worker bees will fill each cup with rich royal jelly.
  4. Harvesting: After approximately 72 hours, remove the frames. The individual white cell cups or the Royal Jelly Bars will be filled with pure royal jelly. This method is exceptionally clean, as the jelly does not come into contact with harvesting tools until the final collection. The individual cups can be collected and stored immediately in a refrigerator, preserving their quality.

FAQ

What Are Queen Rearing Kits Used For?

Queen rearing kits are used to efficiently raise queen bees, which is essential for maintaining and increasing hive productivity. These kits simplify the process of queen rearing, allowing beekeepers to produce multiple queens without the need for complex grafting techniques.

What Is An Uncapping Tub Used For In Beekeeping?

An uncapping tub is used in beekeeping to enhance the honey extraction process. It helps in removing the wax caps from honeycombs efficiently, ensuring high-quality honey production.

What Are Bee Gloves Used For?

Bee gloves are used to protect the hands and fingers of beekeepers from bee stings. They allow beekeepers to handle bees with minimal difficulty and reduce the pain associated with stings.

What Is A Hive Tool Used For In Beekeeping?

A hive tool is a specialized pry bar used by beekeepers to separate hive parts glued together with propolis by honeybees. It is also used to scrape off unwanted propolis and burr comb. It is essential for inspecting and maintaining the hive.

What Is The Purpose Of A Beekeeping Outfit?

A beekeeping outfit is designed to protect beekeepers from bee stings and other aggressive pollinators like yellow jackets. It also helps keep them cool on hot days and reduces the risk of getting stung when combined with a smoker and experience.

What Is The Principle Of A Beekeeping Queen Excluder?

A queen excluder works by exploiting the size difference between worker bees and the queen. The gaps in the excluder are typically between 4.1 and 4.4 millimeters, allowing worker bees to pass through but preventing the larger queen from entering the honey supers. This ensures that the honey supers remain free of brood and contain only honey.

What Are The Main Types Of Queen Rearing Kits Available?

The main types of queen rearing kits include the Nicot Queen Rearing Kit, Jenter Queen Rearing Kit, and various grafting tools and mating hive boxes. Each type offers unique features such as no-grafting systems, reusable cell cups, and precision tools for handling larvae.

A hive tool is a multi-tool used in beekeeping for opening the hive, lifting and shifting frames or other hive parts, scraping away wax and propolis, and prying out or re-setting loose nails or staples. It is made of tempered steel and is typically 20 to 25 cm long, with a flattened end and a bent end for prying frames.

What Are The Main Features Of A Beekeeping Outfit?

A beekeeping suit is typically made of durable white cotton with elastic bands on the wrists and ankles. It includes a collapsible, self-supporting veiled hood with wires to maintain its shape. The design offers great visibility to the front and sides, and the material is protective, comfortable, and lightweight. Lightweight suits are good for light to moderate use, are flexible, and help keep the user cooler.

What Are The Advantages Of Using A Beekeeping Queen Excluder?

The advantages of using a queen excluder include ease of management by keeping the queen out of the honey supers, which simplifies honey extraction and inspection. It also improves queen locating by confining the queen to specific areas, making monitoring and managing her more straightforward. Additionally, it helps in colony control by managing the size and temperament of the colony, and in pest control by preventing egg laying in the honey frames, which reduces the attraction of wax moths.

How Do Queen Rearing Kits Work?

Queen rearing kits work by providing the necessary tools and equipment to create optimal conditions for queen bee development. This includes cell cups for larvae, grafting tools for transferring larvae, and mating hive boxes for queen bee mating. Some kits, like the Jenter system, eliminate the need for grafting, making the process simpler and more efficient.
